Flat Earth University’s Degree Programs Are Fully Legal Under Wyoming Law
The Flat Earth University operates as a private, non-government accredited institution based in Wyoming. While our curriculum focuses on geocentric cosmology and non-mainstream scientific perspectives, our ability to issue degrees such as a Bachelor of Science or Doctorate in Geocentric Cosmology is entirely legal and in full compliance with Wyoming law. We received our accreditation from the Journal of Geocentric Cosmology on June 16th, 2024.
1. Private Institutions and Accreditation in Wyoming
Wyoming law does not require all educational institutions to be accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or recognized accrediting bodies. Private, religious, and non-traditional institutions are permitted to operate and confer degrees, provided they are transparent about their non-accredited status and do not misrepresent their credentials.
Flat Earth University makes no claims of government accreditation and does not seek recognition by federal or state educational regulatory bodies. This is an intentional and lawful position, and we clearly disclose it to all students, affiliates, and the public.
2. Freedom of Educational Expression
Wyoming has historically supported a libertarian approach to business and education. The state allows for the establishment of educational organizations that promote alternative theories, religious beliefs, or niche academic fields. As long as such institutions do not engage in deceptive practices—such as misrepresenting their degrees as being equivalent to those from accredited universities—there is no violation of law.
Our degrees are conferred in a specific and clearly stated area of study: geocentric cosmology. This is a philosophical and scientific framework that we explore in depth, and our curriculum is structured accordingly. We do not train medical professionals, attorneys, engineers, or others in licensed fields, and therefore we do not cross into areas of regulation where unauthorized practice could be a concern.
3. Transparency and Compliance
Flat Earth University provides full transparency to students and the public. All materials, degree descriptions, and institutional policies clearly state our private, non-accredited status. Wyoming statutes permit the issuance of degrees under these conditions, as long as there is no intent to defraud or mislead.
We are not alone in this model. Many religious seminaries, independent schools, and philosophical academies operate similarly, issuing degrees that reflect their own internally-defined standards of study.
4. Responding to False Claims of Fraud
Critics may disagree with the subject matter or philosophical stance of Flat Earth University, but disagreement is not equivalent to illegality. The First Amendment and the educational freedom recognized under Wyoming law protect the right to study and promote alternative theories, including geocentric cosmology.
Claims of “fraud” are legally baseless so long as our institution continues to be forthright about its nature, scope, and limitations. Our legal counsel has reviewed relevant state statutes and confirms that our model is compliant with Wyoming’s private education regulations.
Conclusion
Flat Earth University, operating under the Journal of Geocentric Cosmology LLC, is a lawful private educational institution in the state of Wyoming. Our right to issue degrees in geocentric cosmology is protected under both state law and constitutional principles of educational and philosophical freedom. While our views may not align with mainstream science, our legal standing is secure, and we remain committed to academic transparency and intellectual exploration.
